The November 2025 welcome message from the AMWS Chairman,
Mr David Parmeter
Mr David Parmeter
Hello everyone, and welcome to the last AMWS E-newsletter for 2025.
At this time I would like to reflect on the work of AMWS during 2025, and how this charity has assisted seafarers, past, present and emerging.
Let me give you some numbers:
Since the 1st January, AMWS has made 12 Specific Grants to welfare providers, totalling over $160,000, with another six grants pending approval by the Council.
Also there is a regular system of Welfare Payments, which are used to fund Internet services at seafarer centres and cover the costs of keeping the all important buses on the road. This year nearly $70,000 has been paid out.
In addition the Council approved one off grants to assist deserving individuals totalling $7,488.
In terms of assisting emerging seafarers, four students at the AMC benefited from Malcolm Longstaff Scholarships with $14,000 paid to individuals who need financial support while studying. With the Sail Training program, AMWS funded two recipients, at a cost of $9,990.
And a retired seafarer lives in subsidised accomodation provided by AMWS.
The point I am getting at is that the work AMWS does for the cause of seafarer welfare is practical and targeted for maximum benefit. AMWS make's a difference and we can all be proud of what has been achieved in 2025.
I trust you will enjoy this edition of the newsletter.
