  • The Society has been a registered corporate entity continuously since it was founded in 1863 for the purpose of raising funds for the construction of the Sydney Sailors’ Home, which opened in 1865.  Please click on History page for further information.       
  • The office-bearers and Councillors all act in an honorary capacity and receive no remuneration and hold quarterly meetings. Collectively they bring to the Society professional expertise in seafaring, ship operations and management, the law, finance, accounting, investment strategy, marketing, public relations and Internet technology.
  • The Society neither owns nor leases office premises which helps to minimise its administration costs.
