Australian Mariners Welfare Society
Sail Training Programme

AMWS Tall Ship Sail Training Scholarships
Background & Application Process

Since 2017, the Society has made available sail training scholarships to young people aged 15 to 19 years of age who meet the eligibility criteria to encourage an interest in the maritime industry and for character building purposes. The scholarship covers the cost of undertaking voyages of various lengths on sail training vessels and the feedback from successful applicants has been very supportive of this initiative.

Scholarships have been provided, so far, to selected individuals undertaking voyages on the “ STS One & All” in Port Adelaide, the “ STS Leeuwin“ in Fremantle and “ STS Windeward Bound” in Hobart.

The criteria applied is that the applicants be the children of seafarers or ex-seafarers ( Merchant Marine, Navy or Deep Sea Fishing ) and be of low or moderate financial means .  An AMWS indemnity form is  required to be completed.

The awarding of sail training scholarships is always at the complete and absolute discretion of the Council of the Australian Mariners’ Welfare society.
